Scott Gallery features paintings by Hilary Prince and Linda O’Neill that celebrate the Alberta vista.
Hilary Prince reflects on the beauty and simplicity of the Alberta landscape, permeating her work with a sense of revealed colour, power and inspiration. Focusing on the dramatic prairie sky, Prince depicts areas around Millet and the Edmonton’s University farm. Linda O’Neill brings the viewers attention to the subtle suggestions of lyrical rhythm and directional movement of the land. O’Neill depicts paintings based on the lush parkland around Edmonton, sweeping vistas of the southernmost part of the province, and the ancient eroded forms of the Badlands. Both painters convey the representational beauty of the Alberta landscape, creating wondrous images of places they both hold dear.
Linda O’Neill was born in Toronto, Ontario, but for many years made Edmonton, Alberta her home. She studied at Grant MacEwan College (Fine Art Diploma 1994), the University of Alberta (BFA 1996), and at the University of Guelph (MFA 2000) where she now resides.
Originating from South Africa
, Hilary Prince was trained as an abstract painter but began exploring landscape painting in 1980, shortly after coming to Alberta from Great Britain, where she discovered with delight a strong tradition in landscape painting.
